Michael Andretti gave a great example and I believe he calls it the 100% rule for car control. Turning and braking will cause your car to loose grip and control. In any race car real life or virtual, when you brake, always brake in a straight line. Amber means you can maintain your speed and Green means "floor it". Red means you are going to fast and you need to slow down. Turn on the Virtual Racing Line which will show you when you need to Brake entering a corner and when you can accelerate. Memorizing a track is essential to enjoying any F1 game. F1 is a sport that's a very technical Sport, not only do you have to worry about how the car handles but the tracks are technical as well. I would suggest using the easy settings and doing time attack or "Hot Laps".

Then I felt like selling this on ebay to recoup some of my money back, but I have to try and give it a bit more time. It's got great driving and graphics, but since I really don't understand the sport I feel lost. I'm new to the sport of F1 and am finding it kinda difficult to enjoy the game. Very strange as I tried one other game and it was fine. I rebooted the PS3 twice and it ended up correcting the problem. Yeah, it was due to the Firmware 1.54 Upgrade.
